Pregnancy Symptoms
Sickness
Nausea and vomiting are common during pregnancy, and it’s important to know that you’re not alone in experiencing them. Everyday tasks and normal routines can quickly become challenging, especially when certain foods or smells trigger symptoms.
I offer pregnancy appropriate complementary therapies that aim to ease discomfort, support your body, and help you manage these symptoms more comfortably. Sessions are adapted to your needs and focus on helping you feel more settled and able to cope day to day.
Back, hip & pelvic pain
During pregnancy, your body goes through constant physical changes. As your baby grows, your posture shifts, your centre of gravity changes, and the joints and soft tissues of the pelvis take on extra load. Effects from your hormones to your ligaments can leave the back, hips and pelvis feeling less supported. These combined factors often lead to aches, stiffness and reduced mobility.
These symptoms are very common, and many women notice that everyday movements—such as walking, turning in bed, getting in the car or getting up from a chair—become more challenging and painful as pregnancy progresses.
I provide pregnancy appropriate complementary therapies designed to relieve tension, reduce discomfort, and support your body through these changes. Each session is tailored to your needs, helping you find comfort, improve mobility, and manage pregnancy-related back and pelvic pain more effectively.
Sciatica
Sciatica is a common pregnancy discomfort caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve, which can lead to pain, tingling, or numbness radiating from the lower back down the legs. Postural changes, your growing baby, and increased pelvic flexibility can all contribute to this type of discomfort.
I provide pregnancy appropriate complementary therapies aimed at relieving tension, supporting posture, and reducing sciatic-type pain. Treatments are tailored to your symptoms, helping you improve comfort and mobility during pregnancy.
Tingling Wrists (Carpel Tunnel)
Carpal tunnel syndrome can occur during pregnancy as fluid retention and hormonal changes put extra pressure on the nerves in the wrist. This may cause tingling, numbness, or discomfort in the hands and fingers, which can make everyday tasks such as typing, lifting, or even sleeping more difficult.
I provide pregnancy appropriate complementary therapies designed to relieve wrist and hand tension, support nerve function, and reduce discomfort. Sessions are tailored to your symptoms, helping you maintain function and comfort in your hands throughout pregnancy.
Stress & Anxiety
Pregnancy and the postnatal period can bring a range of emotions, and it’s common to experience stress or anxiety during these times. Hormonal changes, sleep disruption, and the demands of caring for yourself and your baby can all contribute to heightened emotional strain. I also recognise that if you experienced stress or anxiety before pregnancy, these symptoms may persist or become more pronounced during pregnancy and postnatal life.
I provide pregnancy and postnatal appropriate complementary therapies designed to help reduce stress, promote relaxation, and support emotional wellbeing. Sessions offer a safe, nurturing space where you can take time for yourself, process your feelings, and regain a sense of calm and balance during this important stage of life.
Heartburn & Indigestion
Heartburn and indigestion are common during pregnancy as your digestive system adjusts to hormonal changes and your growing baby. This can cause discomfort, bloating, or a burning sensation in the chest and throat, which can affect eating and daily routines.
I offer pregnancy appropriate complementary therapies designed to support digestion, reduce tension, and help you feel more comfortable. Sessions are tailored to your needs, helping you manage these symptoms and maintain wellbeing throughout pregnancy.
Constipation & Haemorrhoids
Constipation and haemorrhoids can affect women both during pregnancy and after birth. Hormonal changes, slower digestion, the pressure from your growing baby, and the process of birth can contribute to these issues, while postnatal recovery and changes in routine may cause them to persist.
I provide pregnancy and postnatal appropriate complementary therapies designed to support digestion, ease tension, and improve comfort. Sessions are tailored to your needs, helping you manage these symptoms and maintain wellbeing throughout pregnancy and beyond.
Swelling
Swelling of the hands and feet is often a normal physiological response during pregnancy and can sometimes continue after birth. Increased fluid retention, changes in circulation, and the pressure from your growing baby can cause swelling, which may lead to discomfort or reduced mobility.
In some cases, swelling can be a sign of something non-physiological and requires further investigation. As a trained midwife, I can recognise these signs and provide appropriate guidance.
I provide pregnancy and postnatal appropriate complementary therapies designed to support circulation, reduce tension, and improve comfort where it is safe to do so. Sessions are tailored to your needs, helping you manage swelling and maintain wellbeing throughout pregnancy and recovery.
Relaxation
Taking time out for yourself during pregnancy and after birth is essential for both physical and emotional wellbeing. Stress, tension, and fatigue can build up, affecting sleep, mood, and overall comfort. Making space for relaxation supports your body as it adapts to pregnancy and helps you recover after birth.
I provide pregnancy and postnatal appropriate complementary therapies designed to promote deep relaxation, reduce tension, and support emotional balance. Sessions are tailored to your needs, giving you a dedicated opportunity to rest, recharge, and care for yourself during this important time.
Breech
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that uses gentle heat to encourage babies in a breech (bottom-first) position to turn into a head-down (cephalic) position. It is a non-invasive treatment and can be safely used in uncomplicated pregnancies.
As a trained midwife, I can assess whether your pregnancy is suitable for moxibustion and provide guidance on safe application. I can also recognise situations where referral for further checks or alternative interventions may be necessary, ensuring your safety and that of your baby.
Research suggests that moxibustion may increase the likelihood of a baby turning to a head-down position compared with no intervention, making it a popular complementary option for women with breech babies.
Birth Preparation
From 37 weeks gestation, you can begin preparing both your mind and body for labour and birth. Birth preparation helps you feel more confident, informed, and ready for the physical and emotional experience ahead.
I provide pregnancy appropriate complementary therapies designed to support relaxation, ease tension, and promote physical comfort. Sessions also offer a safe space to discuss your birth plan with a midwife, explore your preferences, and ask questions, helping you feel empowered and supported as you approach birth.
Recommended from 37 weeks gestation.
Avoiding Induction of Labour
It’s normal to feel uncomfortable, anxious, or unsettled as your due date passes. This session is designed to support both your body and mind, encouraging the spontaneous onset of labour and helping to avoid medical induction where possible. The treatment provides a peaceful, relaxed environment where you can unwind, focus, and discuss your birth preferences, ask questions about labour, and explore any last-minute worries. The aim is to support your body’s natural readiness for birth and promote the release of natural birth hormones, helping baby move down safely and gently.
Recommended from 40 weeks gestation.
Recovery From Birth
The weeks and months after birth are a time of significant physical and emotional adjustment. Your body is recovering from labour, and you may experience discomfort, fatigue, or emotional ups and downs. Taking time to care for yourself during this period is essential for your overall wellbeing.
I provide pregnancy and postnatal appropriate complementary therapies designed to promote comfort, support relaxation, and aid physical recovery. Sessions also offer a safe space to debrief and discuss your birth experience, helping you process emotions and reflect on your journey. Each session is tailored to your needs, supporting both physical recovery and emotional wellbeing after birth.
